BBC's History of Rome This web has good in-depth articles, like "Roman Empire: The Paradox of Power". It also has timelines and short biographies of historic figures. There is multimedia (like games, virtual tours and animations) in their other history sections, but none for the Roman section I have noticed.
Ancient History from About.com This site is useful for both beginners and experts in need of a refresher.
